A Genuine Piece of Baltimore Silversmithing History
This antique sterling silver coffee pot was crafted by Hennegen, Bates & Co., one of Baltimore, Maryland's most respected silversmiths and jewelers, active from the late 19th century through the early 20th century. Baltimore was renowned during this era for its distinctive repousse silverwork, and this coffee pot is a fine surviving example of that tradition.
Hand-Chased Floral Repousse Design
The body of the coffee pot is covered in an impressive, hand-worked floral repousse pattern raised chrysanthemums, leaves, and scrollwork achieved entirely through the traditional repousse hammering technique, worked from the reverse side of the silver to create dimensional relief on the front.

Maker's Marks and Provenance
The underside of the pot is fully marked "HENNEGEN-BATES CO.," pattern number 1121, and stamped sterling with the maker's diamond-form hallmark. The base also carries an engraved period monogram and the date 1911, placing this piece firmly within the company's documented active manufacturing period (they operated in Baltimore from the 1870s until roughly 1930).
Design Features
The pot has a gracefully curved spout and a tall, high-arching handle fitted with pale insulating rings a practical Victorian-era design detail that kept the handle cool to the touch during use, still intact on this piece.
