Prince George First Birthday Silver Proof Coin

This Prince George first birthday silver proof coin was struck by The Royal Mint to celebrate the first birthday of HRH Prince George of Cambridge, born on 22 July 2013. It is a £5 crown struck in .925 sterling silver to proof quality, with a face value of five pounds.

Design

The reverse, by heraldic painter Edgar Fuller, shows a cruciform version of the Royal Arms. Four shields, carrying England's three lions, Scotland's lion rampant and a harp, are joined by the floral emblems of the rose, shamrock, leek and thistle, with 2014 either side of the leek. The obverse carries the Ian Rank-Broadley portrait of Queen Elizabeth II.

A Royal Design Rarely Seen on Coins

Originally created for Queen Elizabeth II, this cruciform Royal Arms crown design had not been struck for more than 50 years. It made a fitting tribute for the great-grandson of the Queen and a memorable piece of royal commemorative coinage.

Limited Mintage

The Royal Mint limited this Prince George first birthday silver proof coin to a maximum mintage of 7,500. It sold out in July 2014, days before the prince's first birthday.
