This 1974 Commonwealth of the Bahamas Proof Set contains nine coins, minted by The Franklin Mint under authorization of the Bahamas Monetary Authority. Following the Bahamas' independence in 1973, all nine coins in this set were redesigned to reflect the achievement of independence, featuring iconic national motifs: flamingos, a conch shell, a blue marlin, a sailing sloop, a pineapple, a starfish, and the national coat of arms.
The four highest denominations are struck in genuine silver the $5 and $2 coins in sterling silver, and the $1 and 50-cent coins in 800 silver while the remaining five coins are cupro-nickel and special brass. Each set comes presented in its original Franklin Mint case.
